Heat from the Garden

The buzzword sustainability has been fully grasped at Grosvenor House.  All the new accommodation is kept warm by collecting some of the heat out of the garden.

A heat pump circulates modified water through 1800 metres of pipe work buried 2 metres below the garden, which harvests the solar heat from over 4,000 tons of earth.   ”For every one unit of energy used to drive the heat pump we gain 4 units of energy out of the garden to heat the home using under floor heating. This heating system is capable of providing far more heat than the home needs.

While this form of heating is not common in the UK, it has been very popular in Scandinavia for decades, where temperatures can drop to below –30 degrees C, yet the houses are kept very warm. The outcome is a home that is very warm and comfortable for its residents and a building, which is in the top 5% for sustainability and CO2 emissions in the UK.

We also operate an enviromental policy and have an appointed energy manager.
